It was nice to read, and the characters were likable, but I felt like there was something missing. I still had a good time.

I'm a Marvel fan so I was really excited to see this new hero, Shang-Chi. The movie was amazing; it had been a while since I hadn't heard the whole audience laugh out loud several times during a film! The fight scenes are impressive, and the characters are likable. I definitely recommend seeing it, even if you're not a Marvel fan! (But if you are, there are Easter eggs that will make you smile.)

Malibu Rising – Taylor Jenkins Reid

A lifetime holding it together.
One party will bring it crashing down.

Malibu: August, 1983.

It's the day of Nina Riva's annual end-of-summer party, and anticipation is at a fever pitch. Everyone who's anyone wants an invite to catch a glimpse of the famous Riva siblings: Nina, the talented surfer and supermodel; brothers Jay and Hud, one a championship surfer, the other a renowned photographer; and their adored baby sister, Kit. Together, the siblings are a source of fascination in Malibu and the world over – especially as the children of the legendary singer Mick Riva.

By midnight the party will be completely out of control. By morning the Riva mansion will have gone up in flames.

But ahead of that first spark in the early hours before dawn, the alcohol will flow, the music will play, and the loves and secrets that shaped this family will all come bubbling to the surface.

Malibu Rising is a story about one unforgettable night in the life of a family: the night they each have to choose what they will keep from the people who made them . . . and what they will leave behind
.

“She knew it was up to her to say what had to be said. To do what had to be done. When there is only you, you do not get to choose which jobs you want, you do not get to decide you are incapable of anything. There is no room for distaste or weakness. You must do it all. All of the ugliness, the sadness, the things most people can't stand to even think about, all must live inside of you. You must be capable of everything.”

I fell in love with this story. I took my time to read it because it felt... precious. It was slow, but it was breath-taking. Every character is perfectly shaped, in a way that won't let you indifferent. But they all have their ups and downs. I honestly can't recommend this book enough.
